Yes. We've been assigned a BSID number (886411) by the Ministry, are listed as a private school on the Ministry website, and are accredited by the International Association of Learner-Driven Schools.

We want our learners to research their own questions, follow instructions, solve problems, and — when they hit a roadblock — figure out a solution without immediately asking an adult. They take part in discussions and strive for mastery. A big part of this is taking responsibility for their own behaviour and holding those around them to a high standard. When something isn't working, we want children to solve it together rather than look for an adult to fix it. That builds a real, lasting independence and confidence.

We prepare children to take on whatever comes next — including a traditional school or a selective university. We're supportive of every path, including ones that lead away from Acton. Owners report that moving back to a conventional school is generally easy (though children often want to come back). A guide sets up scenarios and asks questions that spark critical thinking, rather than lecturing. By making and defending their own arguments, children sharpen how they think and speak — and understand a topic more deeply than they would from passively taking notes. Guides use the same approach with learners throughout the day.

No — we're a secular program with no specific religious affiliation.

We're not trained to serve children with serious learning disabilities or significant special needs. That said, other Acton owners have found that children with ADHD and minor learning differences often thrive in a learner-driven studio. We're happy to discuss your child's situation and whether we could meet their needs.

For 2026–2027, our program is offered to children aged 4–12. We have future plans to open a Middle School Studio (12–14) and a Launchpad (14+).

We take a broader approach than grades and report cards, focused on growth, mastery, and skill development. Learners set and track personalized goals — daily, weekly, or by session. Our badge system sets clear expectations in reading, writing, math, and social-emotional growth; as learners meet them, they earn badges, build portfolios, and present work at public exhibitions. And we keep parents closely involved through exhibitions, regular meetings, and portfolio reviews.
